The basics

What is Drover?

One interface above your native coding harnesses. A hub and a daemon on each host run sessions and record them. You control them from an iOS app, a web cockpit, an HTTP API and an MCP server. Read the launch article.

What is Drover not?

Drover is not a replacement harness, a model or a hosted service. It does not select the model for you. It has no user accounts.

How does Drover relate to an orchestrator such as OpenClaw or Hermes?

The orchestrator plans the work. Drover runs the sessions and keeps the history. Drover also collects OpenClaw and Hermes activity, but it does not control them. See the orchestrator use case.

How does Drover differ from Herdr or Claude Code remote control?

They are good tools for different parts of the problem. See the comparison on the home page.

Which harnesses can Drover drive?

Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity (agy) and DeepSeek Harness, and a shell terminal. A harness is available on a host when its CLI is installed there.

Cost and license

What does Drover cost?

Nothing. You bring your own harnesses, model accounts and API keys.

What is the license?

Apache-2.0.

Is the iOS app free?

Yes. You build it from source with Xcode. It is not on the App Store. A public beta is coming soon.

Data and privacy

Where is my data stored?

On your machines: in ~/.drover/, in your PostgreSQL database and, if you select it, in a DuckLake lake. There is no Drover cloud and no Drover account.

Does data leave my machines?

Only through integrations you configure or already use. Examples are a model provider for summaries, Apple push notifications and the update check on GitHub. See Security and privacy.

Can summaries stay local?

No. Summaries use the Claude Code CLI or the Anthropic API, and both send transcript text to Anthropic. Embeddings can use a local Ollama backend. Drover works without summaries.

Can I expose Drover to the internet?

No. Use localhost, a private LAN or a private Tailscale network. The listeners do not provide TLS. A device or host credential gives shell access to your hosts.

Platforms and behavior

Which platforms does Drover support?

The hub and the host daemon run on macOS and Linux with Python 3.11 or later. The app needs iOS 18 or later. Windows is not supported.

Do I need PostgreSQL?

Yes, for a new hub. Use your own PostgreSQL, or let the installer manage a local container. Existing single-machine installs can stay on DuckDB.

What happens when I am offline?

The hub, the hosts and the phone communicate on your private network. Your agents still need their model providers. If a host disconnects, the hub holds a stop request until the host confirms it.

What happens when the hub restarts?

The host daemons own the agent processes, so the sessions continue. The history is already in the control store. Pairing codes that you did not use become invalid.

How mature is Drover?

Drover is for technical users and its releases are frequent. Read the changelog before you upgrade. See the known gaps on the roadmap.
